India’s mineral output up 7.5% in June

Mineral production in India showed a growth of 7.5% in June this year, according to the latest Mining & Quarrying Sector Mineral Production Index data for June 2022 (base: 2011-12=100) at 113.4. Moreover, according to preliminary data released by the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), the cumulative growth in mineral production increased by 9% in the first quarter of this fiscal year.

The production level of important minerals like coal reached 669 lakh tons. While the production of other important minerals has also increased to a certain level. Among them is lignite, the production of which reached 46 lakh tons, and the production of natural gas (used) touched 2747 million cu. m., crude oil production reached 24 lakh tons and bauxite production reached 1950 thousand tons.

The production of chromite reached 343 thousand tons and that of copper concentrate reached 10 thousand tons. Gold reaches 85 kg. Iron ore production reached 201 lakh tons, lead concentrate recorded production of 30,000 tons, manganese ore production reached 238,000 tons and zinc conc. recorded production of 142,000 tons. Limestone production reached 335 lakh tons, phosphorite reached 189,000 tons, magnesite recorded production of 8,000 tons and diamond production reached 44 carats.

Seeing the growing demand for minerals owing to the expansion of manufacturing industry in the country, the government is also planning to boost mining exploration practices in the forest areas of India. He also plans to reduce India’s dependence on mineral imports in the coming years.
