FG program on migration governance hailed

The Guild of Civil Societies and Media Leaders for Equity, Justice in Nigeria (GOCMEJ) commended the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) for the significant progress made in terms of localization and operationalization of the program on migration.

The group’s chairman, Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele, in a statement released in Abuja, said migration governance in Nigeria had been on a continual improvement basis since the expansion of the commission’s mandate via a presidential directive to include coordination of all migration-related issues in the country as well as resettlement and orientation of IDPs in the country.

He listed achievements as a favorable asylum policy, provision of land to refugees/IDPs/returnees and inclusion in a strengthened national system of education, health and water to help women, men and displaced children and affected host communities.

He also said that the NCFRMI is making huge progress in revising the migration policy first launched in 2015 as well as its action plan 2019-2023.
