NASHVILLE, Tennessee., 25 October 2021 / PRNewswire / – In his annual State of the Industry and Association Address, the President and CEO of the American Trucking Associations Chris Lance praised the industry’s efforts to move the country forward during the Covid-19 pandemic and continued to work to address critical trucking issues.
“Throughout this pandemic, truckers have proven how much of a difference we make. There was no playbook. Yet our drivers are once again the most valuable players in this industry. You are part of an elite roster of professionals including scientists, first responders and healthcare providers, ”says Spear. “When many in this nation took shelter in place, you kept your composure and answered the call.”
Spear said the ATA’s ability to stay aligned on key issues is essential to being at the table as key decisions are made in Washington and across the country.
“Despite the playground policy, there is reason to be optimistic. In the wake of it all, America has responded… by thanking truckers in every state, congressional district and community across the country,” he said. he declared. “Our image is what we make of it… it’s who we are and how we want to be seen. We have to ride the crest of this wave, orienting every challenge towards a successful outcome.”
One singular favorable outcome that Spear called imminent was the passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill in the House.
“The Law on Investment in Infrastructure and Jobs is an example of what is possible when we tell our story,” he said, calling the investment bill “historic” not only in our roads and bridges, but in the development of the future workforce of the industry.
Wins like the infrastructure bill are key to establishing the value of the ATA to the industry, Spear said, but said the next step is to grow the association and its influence.
“ATA is not, and never will be, the association of ‘No’. We are not complacent obstructionists. When we are faced with a problem, a different opinion from ours… we redouble our efforts to improve this result, ”he said.“ We are not complaining. And we don’t give up. And our persistence and dedication to any challenge, no matter how difficult, is the reason we win. “
